Xmas Time: Time for family and gadgets :-)
We just had a nice Christmas weekend (except for the weather that is :-)). The kids got spoiled by their parents and far-away grandparents with lots of presents and even my wife and I got each other some gadgets to play with :-). We had lots of play time with the kids and their new toys (Castles and Dragons and Karaoke machine and build your own fashion store), so much in fact that we did not have that much time yet with our new toys :-).
After we got our daughter a digital 2MP HP Photosmart 320 two years ago, my wife stopped using her film-based cameras (and my daughter rarely got to use it :-)). So, to give the camera back to my daughter, I got my wife a 5MP Sony Cybershot DSCW-1.
First impression: Great little camera with great 2.5in LCD screen. Lot's of settings, great day light pics, lots of accessories (I will have to get the tele and wide angle lenses at some point), and runs on 2 AA batteries. On the downside, it uses memory sticks and it seems to be power-hungry and has some issues with low-light focusing. Also, the flash sync speed seems a bit slow (1/40s and 1/50s). I just hope that either Sony, Ikelite or some other underwater housing manufacturer will build a housing for the camera and its add-on lenses. Then I will start using it as much as my wife used the HP camera ;-).
We also finally gave in to a new phone system at home. So finally I have a headset and a mute button for all the W3C XQuery telephone conferences...
Happy holidays to all!
PS: As a Harry Potter fan family, we are happy to see that J.K. Rowling finally is finishing book 6 Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. I just wonder whether the movie actors will be 25 when they film it :-).
