Thanks to Jeff Brand for pointing this one out. John Udell has a pretty interesting item -- "WinFS and social information management" over here. But why do I say it's "pretty interesting?" and that "he gets it?"
- He's the first significant high-profile journalist type I've seen connect the dots the same way I have. WinFS really is about exposing knowledge, not just data, so its just as easy to work as we've come to work with Data today.
- It doesn't have to limited to just WinFS, but that's lowest-barrier entry point.
- He understands how we've gotten there and how it can all fit together to work. Like Quinten said, its about Integration, not invention.
But what's really scary to me is the his reference to Cory Doctorow's Outboard Brain. Dead on connection, John, but the analogy may not end there. Read Jeff Hawkin's "On Intelligence" (John has) and I'd be stunned if you don't see where all of this could lead.
I'm pleased to announce that I've joined DevelopMentor as a full time employee and have accepted the role of Database Curriculum Lead. I'm truly honored that the DevelopMentor believes this much in me, but also in our Team. Dan Sullivan and Niels Berglund have been wonderful teachers and mentors for me. I owe them much and I'm happy to have this opportunity to pay them back. The big change this creates is that I'll have more time to focus on doing things directly related to that. Of course, I also owe Bob Beauchemin a ton of debit and thanks too. He's the one that really hooked me for DM, and while I personally miss him on the team greatly, I'm happy that he's found someplace new to continue thriving.
This means that I've also left my home at ProKarma/eSymbiosis. While I was only there for a short time, I can't begin to tell you how profoundly the experienced touch me. I don't think I'll ever find harder working, more focused and just down-right brilliant folks to work with. Yes, I worked really hard there, but so does everybody. Something that I really came to respect about that group is that everybody took on the responsibility to make success happen. From the President on down, there's an energy... a professionalism that I've never seen elsewhere. If you're looking for someplace to learn ton at, for honest, hardworking leadership and peers and for challenging work, I highly recommend giving them serious consideration.
See you at PDC and PASS!
One of the highlights of going to a show like Microsoft's Professional Developer's conference is that you get to come home with twenty, thirty or more pounds of stuff than you came with. And if you're like me, you've outfitted just about everybody in your family, their families and the local community with the dozens of one-size-fits-nobody T-Shirts that the vendors are all-to-eager to dole out.
I'm proud to say that DevelopMentor is giving away T-Shirts at this years PDC. But not just any T-Shirts, mind you, but ultra cool Navy Blue ones. But these ain't your ordinary T-Shirts. These babies have a little "something extra" that means we can't give them out until after Wednesday Morning's Keynote. And we only have a very limited number of them. So, tell what we're going to do for the faithful Sandwich readers. All you have to do is stop by the DevelopMentor booth (it's number 522) and ask us your best questions about Windows Vista, WinFX and/or SQL Server 2005. During the week, many of the best and brightest of DevelopMentor's instructors will be on hand to take your questions and we like them well enough, we'll put your name "on the VIP list" to make sure you can come get one of these collector items on Wednesday.
And as if that wasn't enough, we're also having a daily drawing for a free (and I'm not a lawyer, but there is the usual fine print with that) DevelopMentor training course. Heck, you don't even have to ask question to win!
I should be at the booth quite a bit, so even if you don't need YATS or have questions, do stop by and say "I enjoy every Sandwich." It's always cool to meet folks who read this... stuff.
