Interesting day in the blogsphere...

Is Take Outs: The Daily Digitial Doggy Bag of Blogsphere Bits making come back? Um, no. Its just that as of late, there's been a lot of stuff that I found worth pointing out. So, yeah, I have been writing a few more aggregrated postings than usual. But "Take Outs" was, is and will continue to be just too demanding for me today any more. But still, this post is going to have that comfortable old Take Outs feel to it.

My Christmas Gift from the inlaws arrived today. They gave me a great gift card to B&N and I splurged a bit: A copy of Kicks Joy Darkness (KJD) and Ted Kooser's newest -- and I believe first non-fiction -- title: The Poetry Home Repair Manual. JKD is a pretty cool, featuring one of my favorite arrtists (Zevon, of course) and one of Janell's favorite bands: Morphine. Its a few songs and mostly readings of Kerouac's "Pomes," including America's New Trinity of Love: Dean, Brando, Presley being read by Richard Lewis. No better choice, I think. Recommended listening if you dig the whole beat poetry thing. More comments on Ted's book as I get a chance to read it.

Anyway, on the good stuff...

Joe Olsen has an interesting look at wrapped server controls, something that looks to make templating sites a bit easier.

Anjana, a community star out of India, points out that Oracle has released a bunch of tools for .NET. Sweet!

Bob Beauchemin continues his his exploration of XQuery over typed vs. untyped instances with some solutions to the puzzle.

Thankfully, .Text isn't dead as Scott Watermasysk points out. The best news? We'll get to contribute code to it going forward.

Slava Oks continues the discussion of Virtual Address Space in SQL Server. There's a huge amount of stuff here for those of you who can keep with it.

Java running the CLR? Yeah, now I'm really interested. Ohad blogs about IKVM.NET, a .NET Java VM implementation. Not much excuse for me to start not to get my new year's resolution about learning Java in gear.

And then there's Jeff Brand... three interesting posts today out "the world's only .NET Sex Symbol."

  • VS Beta 2 Delayed? I think that PDC got scheduled for when it did says a lot.
  • Ahem. Yeah. Too sexy in that so not sexy way there Jeff.
  • Although I just can't agree with the previous item, Jeff and I feel exactly the same way about programmer styles. That's kind of scary, actually.

Installing the AdventureWorks DB on SQL Express

I've just posted an article about how to install the AdventureWorks database into the default instance of SQLExpress. Not hard, but I thought if I could make it easier for folks, that's cut down on the complaining about it not being done by default.
