Well it's official. The first Heartland Developers Conference (HDC) will be held at the Holiday Inn Des Moines West - University Park on December 3rd! HDC is a joint venture between the Des Monies, Lincoln, Minneapolis and Omaha .NET Users Groups. There will be two tracks, which we will categorize once we get the list of presentations. We are going to be looking for speakers concentrating on Sql Server, ASP.NET, messaging, architecture, Biz Talk, Visual Studio.NET, and Windows development. This should be a great time to cover ASP.NET 2.0 and SQL Server 2k5, but we need to make sure and talk about everything. Each track will have five 1 hour presentations, and there will be an opening and closing key note.
The conference will be sponsored by Microsoft and a few other sponsors, with a $15 fee required by each attendee. There will also be a social event the night before the event in the attached restaurant. Other logistics are being worked out. Sessions run from 7:30 AM to 5:00 PM with a lunch (provided) from 11:30 to 12:45.
If you are interested in speaking, we still have eight slots open. You don't have to be a “rock star“ or “MVP.“ Just have something interesting to talk about and the interest in doing so! If you are interested in speaking, please send us an email to heartlanddevelopers@gmail.com with the following information.
- Name
- Preferered Email Address
- Mailing Address
- Contact phone number
- Short biography
- Session Title
- Session Abstract
- “Mug Shot“ photo as GIF, PNG, JPG or TIFF.
Thanks!

Like a spectacular solar eclipse, Omaha.NET and MSDN events align on the same great day. If you want so much .NET information that your head is ready to explode, this is the day you been waiting for. Otherwise if you just want a good reason to skip half a day of work, please join us and attend both events.
Microsoft is holding its quarterly MSDN event September 16th 1:00 pm at (where else) AMC Theater - Oakview Plaza 24, 3555 South 140th Plaza, southeast of the Oakview mall. Join us for a demo-packed afternoon and gain valuable insight into .NET development. Plus, get a sneak peek at what's coming in ASP.NET 2.0! For more info or register for the event, please visit the MSDN site.
Following the meeting, Omaha.NET will be holding our September meeting from 6:00 – 8:30. We will be meeting at Creighton University West Campus – located at 11111 Mill Valley Road. Jeff Brand, Developer Architect for Microsoft, will be presenting "Threading with Windows Forms". He will be walking us through an introduction to threading, and then proper application within the WinForms environment. This session will introduce basic threading concepts such as thread creation, using delegates, and configuring threads. Attendees will then be shown how to use multiple threads with Windows Forms applications, key concepts and issues, and a sample framework for incorporating threading into their own application. Pizza and pop will be furnished by Microsoft.
Hope to see you next Thursday.
