My attention has been seized by other things.
Darn that Adam Kinney. He set me off today in a private e-mail.
What do you think makes a great developer community site?
There's a bunch of superficial answers to that: busy forums, brilliant members who actively participate, great downloads, practical articles, themed blogs, reviews, schedule of events, appealing design, a search engine. In other words: the junkies sites. (grin)
I still don't have a good answer. There much thought tearing around in my head about the relationship of problem, product and marketing. I'm grasping at ideas that like "problems->markets->products->profits = good community, profits->products->markets->problems = bad community.
The Tao to follow, though, seems to be the communal sharing of knowledge. The value a member realizes is as much a function of persistent engagement in the process as it is in the accumulated knowledge itself.
Hunting Godzilla indeed.
