My selection of "I would RTFM if there was an FM to FR" drew the attention and comments of Mike "The Haas" Hostetler. I say well done, Mike. In particular:
Documentation is a sore spot — everyone likes to have good documentation, but no one wants to write it. Usually, not even the tech writers themselves. There are things you can do about it:
- Bitch and moan, and say how much it sucks
- Take some ownership and post it — maybe the next person won’t go through what you did. Isn’t that what blogs are for?
My only significant comment back on this is that while Blogs are fine addenda to the main documentation, they shouldn't used be the canonical documentation. Users expect at least some internal manual or online help these days. Having to use Goggle to find that in the Blogsphere strikes me as a very poor user experience.

Line of the day: What am I trying to say? Well, I've seen
direct customer requests help get a group unstuck. And once unstuck they get
hyper productive. Why? Developers want to please people. They want their code
to be used. So, when someone says "I'll use your stuff, if you give me X"
that's a powerful motivator.
