Reporting Services and Web Portals

Over on the SSWUG Mailing List, Brett Wesoloski asked about integrating RS with a Portal like IBuySpy. I'm not sure if there is a specific feature in RS to this end. The easy way to do this seems to be using URL Access (ack!)

Anna Dorofiyenko wrote back to the list pointing out the Microsoft Business Intelligence Portal. Sweet! Something else I need to look at real soon now. Thanks much, Anna!

Categories and Feeds update

Thanks to the new Category to RSS feed option with SQLJunkies, I took the opportunity to clean up my categories and feeds a bit. I really like this new feature. Great change Scott and Donny! Now I won't be polluting the SQLJunkies homepage so much. Here's what to expect going forward:

  • Beer: Feed of Ale making, drinking and otherwise posts.
  • InfoTec 2004: Feed related to InfoTec 2004
  • Other SQL: Feed on items SQL Server and Data Access related, but not Yukon or Reporting Services related.
  • Otherwise: Feed of stuff that's not suitable for other categories.
  • Rants: Feed of my rants about anything and everything.
  • Reporting Services: Feed of Reporting Services related items.
  • Security: Feed on IT security and related items.
  • Take Outs: Feed of "Take Outs: The digital doggie bag of blog bits."
  • WILY: Feed on Whidbey, Indigo, Longhorn and Yukon -- AKA "The Jupiter Wave."
  • XML: Feed of items on and related to XML

Thanks for visiting.

Gone Wandering -- Developing Wireless applications with the .NET CF

It's official -- InfoTec is risking their good name on me. I'll be speaking on 21 April 2004 at 8:30 AM. The session in entitled "Gone Wandering -- Developing Wireless applications with the .NET Compact Framework."

The goal here is to demonstrate using SQL 2000 CE and the .NET CF bits for Web Services to build a wireless application that folks might use when doing field work. Rob Tiffany's book has been a great help so far in this quest.

The conference web site is up, too, at http://www.infotec.org/

Make an XP Dial-Up Phonebook with Perl

Here's a little bit of a script I wrote that makes a Phonebook of Dial-up numbers for use with Windows XP. Assumes you have a list of dial up numbers in a tab seperated text file. The first column of that file should be the Comment associated with the RAS #, the second column is the area code for the number and the last column in the dial-up number itself.
