Managing SQL Server 2005 Express (SSX) Databases via a GUI

Probably the most frequently asked questions about we are getting seem to be about this topic.

  1. Where is Express Manager (XM?) When will it be available for download?
Answer: As of 23-August 2004, it is not yet available for download. The team is still working on it. No release date has been announced. Stay tunned to this channel (or the newsgroup) for annoucement about its availability.
  2. Can I manage Express Databases with SQL Server 2005 Management Studio
Answer: With the Beta 2 bits, no. Its a planned feature in future beta versions and for the RTM.
  3. How do I work with an SSX database using a GUI?
Answer: You can use any of the Express products if you like. If your familar with SQL Server 2000's Query Analyzer Tool, I highly recommend Lloyd Sheen's Query Analyzer Replacement Application. You may download that from here.
