SQL Pass in Grapevine (Dallas), Tx this year...

I'm going to PASS this year. As it turns out I have six talks in one form or the other.

http://www.sqlpass.org/events/summit05/

If you're coming to PASS, be sure to stop by and say hello. It would be great to put faces with names.

  • I have two talks I'm giving solo: Perf tuning the pipeline, and writing custom components.
  • One is a co-presentation with Sanjay Soni about our experience with SSIS on 64-bit and some best practices discovered in a realistic customer scenario.
  • Two are combined presentations with other SQL BI folks covering Integrate, Analyze and Report basics along with some tips and tricks.
  • Saturday, I'll be presenting to the MVPs.

This should be a lot of fun. I'm looking forward to meeting some of you in person and sharing some of the Integration Services Kool-Aid.

Thanks,

SQLIS.com

Allan and Darren are continuing to build an impressive resource in SQLIS.com. If you haven't visited there lately, take a few moments and go visit. Lately they've been archiving articles from various sources, including blogs. For a list of all the articles you can go here.

New SQL Server Magazine article

Douglass McDowell and Jay Hackney have teamed up to write a great article for SQL Server Magazine on Integration Services. They write a custom data source adapter for reading IIS log files. Very cool. Check it out here: http://www.windowsitpro.com/SQLServer/Article/ArticleID/45801/45801.html

Another SSIS Article...

Here's another article on SSIS. It's rewarding to see more and more press on Integration Services.

This one is pretty fundamental, but I liked the roundup of new features at the beginning.

Forrester Research Write Up

Others will likely post about this, but it's good information and want to share it as well.

Forrester Research has done a short write up about Integration Services.

Integration Services VS. Informatica

Jamie Thomson has been working with SSIS for a few months now and has posted more of his findings. I won't steal his thunder by telling you what they are, but it's worth a look.

It's a bit sparse at the moment, but more content is coming.

DevTeach 2005

For those who may be interested, I'm going to be speaking at DevTeach, June 18-22 in Montreal, Quebec.

http://www.devteach.com/Index.asp

I'll be giving three talks about... You guessed it, SSIS.

“What's New in DTS”, “Configuring and Deploying SSIS Packages” and “Data Flow in SSIS”.

Looks like it will be a great conference. A lot of the SQL Junkies crowd will be there as well.

If you're going, please stop by and say hello. Apparently, I have to learn French... :)

J'attends avec intérêt de vous voir tout là.

New whitepaper on MSDN

There is a great whitepaper the practices folks generated on MSDN.

If you want to understand the intricacies of upgrading a complex system to 2005, this should give you a really good idea what it's like and what to look out for.

Source control integration...

In Tom Rizzo's blog he talks about source control integration. I posted a comment, but the link didn't come through. Here's a screenshot.

Child packages

Jamie posted on his blog about child packages.

He notes some issues with executing child packages in the designer. He's also using child packages in event handlers. I'd like to hear more from folks about how/if they're using child packages and what your experience is.

Jamie warns against using them because of perf issues in the designer. Let me know what your experience has been, will ya?
