As Beta 2 approaches...
Yukon Beta 2 is creeping ever closer as we try to push the quality of the product higher. It is both exciting as well as a bit scary. Beta 2 is going to be more widely distributed than Beta 1 and it is exciting to get the product into the hands fo more users, at the same time it is a bit scary to wait for the feedback and see what issues users find. In the end though, we really need more “real world” usage and so I am eagerly waiting to finish work on the Beta and get it out there.
I am totally jazzed about Yukon, especially DTS (which is not surprising, given that my team is developing it). I think that DTS in Yukon is going to provide such a lot of value to users, that it in itself will make the wait for Yukon worth it ! If you have been to PASS or PDC you may had a glimpse of what is to come.
Kirk Haselden from the DTS team has written a nice article on “What's new in DTS” for Yukon at: http://www.winnetmag.com/SQLServer/Article/ArticleID/42141/42141.html
I am most interested in seeing how people will use DTS beyond the traditional ETL. There is so much in it to facilitate new types of data integration applications. But that is for another blog entry, at another time...
