Anyone tried to explain what OLAP is to another peer

Yesterday, on the way to a baseball game, I was trying to explain what OLAP was to a developer who has only been on the SQL side of statistical data.  This brought back memories of the consultant my previous company hired trying to explain it to me.  I was wondering if anyone else has had to go through the task of explaining what OLAP/Analysis Services is and how it works.

Thanks Donny!

Just like Mallik, I would like to thank Donny for setting me up with this blog.

Little Bit About Me

Currently, I am a Senior .NET Developer in Kansas City. I am an active speaker for the .NET User Group in Kansas City as well. My Other Blog is more about .NET and other topics.

My Topics Here

Outside of the past two weeks, this past year I have been working on an OLAP project for the Real Estate industry with no COM-Interop. I am planning on continuing my OLAP experience and will write up helpful tips about MDX, ETL, and OLAP design. I will also write about my database structure of the geekswithblogs.com tool I have created and other SQL projects, like SQL Mail and hopefully Yukon in the near future. This is going to be fun.
