Somehow, this reminds me of .... www.thedailywtf.com

Christmas Gifts !!!

36 gmail invites to be given away ...

The conditions for getting an invite :-

1. You must be the owner of a website.

2. You need to tell me the site address and the name of Content Management Software you are using (I need to know this to decide on the CMS for my website).

3. I need a valid email address to send the invite to ...

4. You can choose the number of invites you get, if you help me configure the CMS on my site -> www.sqlserverarena.com

Community Server Now Available !!!

Via http://dotnetjunkies.com/WebLog/richard.dudley/archive/2004/12/22/38213.aspx

Every day or so, I make it a point to check out the new controls in the ASP.NET Control Gallery.  Right there on top today is this one:

Previously known as ASP.NET Forums, Community Server is a knowledge management and collaboration platform that includes a powerful forums engine, a blog engine, and a photo gallery engine. Used by Microsoft, Autodesk, Intel, and many other companies as the platform of choice for building communities.

Update : Looks like I may have jumped the gun . The Download link on the page still takes me to Community Server :: Forums.

Just found out about my long lost brother !!!

This one definitely made me go “WTF” !!!

Thanks to my buddy Melroy for pointing this one out !!!

Cease and desist !!!

Wow !!! Ted Neward has been served a "cease and desist" letter by Sun for Javageeks.com use of Sun's trademarks in its company name, as well the other uses of Sun's trademarks on the www.javageeks.com web site which they say are inconsistent with Sun's Trademark and Logo Usage Requirements.

Hey, this leads me to think twice about using any images related to SQL Server on my upcoming site www.sqlserverarena.com !!! So the question that is obviously bothering me is, “What are Microsoft's rules on use of its trademarks on a community site ?”

Automatic Updates ???

People complain against Microsoft for forcing Windows Update on them ... to quote Bryant Likes

“Windows update is getting dangerously close to the definition of a computer virus: A program or piece of code that is loaded onto your computer without your knowledge and runs against your wishes.”

So Bryant , what would be your opinion about this ....

These are the default settings for the Mozilla 1.7.3 browser hidden deep down in the Edit Preferences Dialog under Advanced Settings -> Software installation. And I don't remember being asked to enable software updates for Mozilla. :(

I 'll be watching you !!!!

Just for this post ... I have put a small site statistics html code into my posts. Just want to have an idea about my aggregator readership ... hope you guys wont mind. I am currently using www.statcounter.com to track the visitors.

Tax the Techie ????

http://inhome.rediff.com/money/2004/aug/11tax.htm

I was unable to find any rationale behind the statement. At least he should have explained the logic on which he made the statement.

This single comment has incurred the wrath of tech professionals all over India.

A big break ... from Blogging ???

Well ... not exactly ...

It was a break all right ... but not from blogging ... it was a break that left me completely helpless for the past few days ...

On the night of June 25th, while returning back home, i had an accident which was quite ugly ... I was left with a jaw fracture at two places ... and a dislocated collar bone. I was in hospital for 12 days a and after that spent some time recovering at home. The docs advised rest for a month and so here I am back home with nothing to do except watch TV and read ( only novels till now ... but I hope to move over to some .NET books I've brought along ). Will be blogging almost daily now that I have nothing to do ...

Is what we do called work ???

The answer according to Scoble is “NO”.

“By the way, what we do isn't work. I can think of lots of jobs that are really work. Putting roofs on buildings in Dallas during the summer, for instance.”

I would have taken the comment in the stride had I not put in 130 Hrs of non-work since last Sunday ...

Some times I wonder that why I even bother reading Scoble's weblog ...I think its probably because of the links he provides which are mostly good ... but when it comes to his opinions ... they are sometimes like that of a fifth grade student ... an example of which is the one above. Putting roofs on buildings in Dallas is physical work (no thinking required .. just follow the instructions) ... what we do mostly is mental work (deciding where , when and how to put the roof for one case)  and there is a hell lot of difference between the two ...

Scoble ... have you ever heard about skilled and unskilled labor ... and do you understand the difference between the two ???

Windows Vs Oracle

Just recieved this from a colleague of mine

By the way, you had pointed out that on Windows, to shutdown a machine you have to click the start button.

There is something similar I found out in Oracle.
In Oracle, to uninstall, your have to click the install button first.

Thanks to Suresh for this laugh.

A request to OSS Dudes

A sincere request to all the OSS dudes around ... dont waste your time fighting over whether MS is evil or Bill G. is the devil. Your energy and time will be better utilized if you work on these...

All I want to say is I agree MS Software has bugs ... but please work on correcting yours too ...

New Group for SQL Server DBA's

http://groups-beta.google.com/group/MSSQLServerDBA

Yeah ... I know !!! There are too many groups existing all over the internet ... but adding another one wont make much of a difference

Asking all SQL Server DBA's to join in ... I will be keeping the membership open for five days and after that it will be moderator approved. I would like to create a like minded community where we can all talk about SQL Server 2005 and how to work our way towards it .... or in other words ... as put very well by Kent ... We must bridge Yukon together

KENT ... i hope you will be the first one to join ...
