Is what we do called work ???

The answer according to Scoble is “NO”.

“By the way, what we do isn't work. I can think of lots of jobs that are really work. Putting roofs on buildings in Dallas during the summer, for instance.”

I would have taken the comment in the stride had I not put in 130 Hrs of non-work since last Sunday ...

Some times I wonder that why I even bother reading Scoble's weblog ...I think its probably because of the links he provides which are mostly good ... but when it comes to his opinions ... they are sometimes like that of a fifth grade student ... an example of which is the one above. Putting roofs on buildings in Dallas is physical work (no thinking required .. just follow the instructions) ... what we do mostly is mental work (deciding where , when and how to put the roof for one case)  and there is a hell lot of difference between the two ...

Scoble ... have you ever heard about skilled and unskilled labor ... and do you understand the difference between the two ???

Windows Vs Oracle

Just recieved this from a colleague of mine

By the way, you had pointed out that on Windows, to shutdown a machine you have to click the start button.

There is something similar I found out in Oracle.
In Oracle, to uninstall, your have to click the install button first.

Thanks to Suresh for this laugh.

A request to OSS Dudes

A sincere request to all the OSS dudes around ... dont waste your time fighting over whether MS is evil or Bill G. is the devil. Your energy and time will be better utilized if you work on these...

Microsoft offers free licenses for Backup servers

According to Reuters, Microsoft is offering free licenses for backup servers to its customers (Via Tejas's weblog).

This I percieve as a smart move by Microsoft to satisfy its customers and will be a great help to small businesses. I welcome it too.

Tejas says :

But I wonder that what triggered this offer? Is this the result of the competition that Microsoft might be facing in the market today?

Huh ... Linux competing with MS ... no way !!!

I have been a follower of linux in college times but now am a total convert to MS. Given the various flavours of Linux flying around, I dont think Linux user community would be able to give any competition. True, Linux will be used where ever the people think of getting anything for free (but think of the scenario where something goes down real bad and you have to rely on a web based community to bail you out ... I wouldnt like to be in that situation for sure ...).

This move is a part of the  Software Assurance program which according to the Microsoft website was started in September 2003. Read more here.  This is a welcome move by Microsoft and hope MS adds more goodies along the way as time passes.
