Something to look forward to
O'Reilly is publishing something a bit off the beaten track for them,
We the Media
by
Dan Gillmor
. I was poking around on their site and found the intro to this book offered as a preview (you can view it as a .pdf
here
). The book itself looks like it'll be out sometime in July. The premise is a re-evaluation of journalism in light of technological advances, notably the Internet and the rise of blogging. The speed and relative ease with which information can now be globally disseminated is causing a sea change in that industry (among many, I'd imagine). I mean, think for a moment how many blogs, forums, chats, and other mechanisms you use every day for informal communication. From what I took away, it seems to have a very post-cluetrain manifesto feel. Look for a review here once I've got my hands on a copy.
