Serializing large datasets

One of the cool features that Pablo demo'd in his MSDN TV episode on ADO.NET 2.0 was binary serialization, which provides markedly better remoting performance. Which is all fine and good, you say, but what can I do to improve my performance now? Well, it turns out that we have a KB article on how to build a wrapper class to improve serialize/deserialize efficiency for large datasets in the released versions of the .NET Framework - Improving DataSet Serialization and Remoting Performance. It includes samples in C# and VB. Who knew? Not me, apparently, 'tho I've got no one but myself to blame. I get kbAlertz, I'm just bad about keeping up with them. Will have to try to be better about that...
