I'll be taking the WebLogs offline in about an hour so if you want to post anything do it now.

Thanks,

Donny

Hello All,

As you can probably tell we have CS up and going.

Please post all bug reports and feature requests here: http://sqljunkies.com/Forums/ShowForum.aspx?ForumID=191

We'll be doing daily builds (or as many as we need) and updates so please post no matter how small the problem is. We are already aware of the Gallery issue and will hopefully have a fix tomorrow morning.

Thanks,

Donny Mack

Hey All,

I have successfully did a full migration on my local computer! Good News! The database i was using to test was quite old so i'm going to download and run the migration all over again one last time with a copy of the database as of today. If it's successful we'll be upgrading tomorrow. I will make a post a bit before to warn you.

Thanks,

Donny

Hey All,

What SQLJunkies Bloggers are going to TechEd in Orlando? And YES - I'm right now, Sat. night working on getting the data migration utility to work correctly!

But let me know about TechEd ASAP - may have something for you!

Thanks,

Donny

Hi All,

Spam is going crazy right now. What I recommend is turning off comments for a few days. We currently have the CS code base converted and running within our architecture. The only thing left to do is get the data migrated. I've tried a few of the migration tools but they aren't cooperating. Saturday is set aside to get this finished and then we'll be taking the blogs offline one by one and going into beta.

Also, if you know of any tools out there for migration from .TEXT to CS please post, i think i've found most of them but maybe not.

Thanks,

Donny

Hey Guys,

Bad news! We have keep using .TEXT a little while longer - hopefully just another 1/2 day! It has now turned out that data migration was the least of my migration issues. As far as we can tell they so tightly integrated all sections of community server that we’re going to be forced to do some major modifications due to the fact we do not want to run all sections of CS and the out of the box solution will break all blog URL’s and our site for that matter. It is beyond me why they designed it that way? I mean really, we just want the Blog engine (right now) and can’t without a rehaul.

But the good news is I have a tentative line of attack for the mods. and will be implementing them first thing in the morning. I think it’s basically going to come down to some tricky URL remapping to trick their runtime.

Anyway, sorry I couldn’t get it up today! If anyone has any experience doing what we need to do please contact me!

Donny

SqlJunkies.com WebLog's are going to be taken offline within two hours for an unspecified amount of time but should not exceed 8 hours. We will be updating our engine to the Community Server :: Blogs http://www.communityserver.org/blogs/ which promises to be a great engine.

This is just a warning so you can get anything posted you need to now. I'll be doing a 5 minute warning right before i take you offline!

Thanks,

Donny

Hello All,

I finally have an update. Last week was very hectic with a move etc. but i JUST (as in right now) was able to successfully migrate SqlJunkies.com WebLogs to community Server Blogs! The full migration isn't finished on my local computer, but if successful I'll be taking down SqlJunkies.com Blogs tomorrow and running the full upgrade. Depending on how long that takes I may move on to DNJ or wait until the following day. Regardless, we should be up within a day / 2!

I just got word an upgrade utility from .TEXT to Community is finished. Tomorrow I'm going to run the utility locally to test - if it's successful we'll be taking the blogs down for the upgrade which I'll make a post about before we do with the estimated time we'll be down (which i won't know until i run it locally).

To all the people who have emailed about starting a blog, after the upgrade you'll be contacted for the required information!

Thanks,

Donny

Anyone have a more efficient way? I know there is somewhere!

Hello All,

Thanks for your patience lately with the errors we've been getting. I just wanted to let everyone know we are upgrading to the new version as soon as it's out. We've just grown out of this version...

Thanks,

This download includes all of the files from the PSS Service Center provided at the Professional Association for SQL Server (PASS) 2004 conference.

Overview

Do you want to know how Microsoft SQL Product Support Services (PSS) engineers break down problems? Originally designed as an opportunity for customers to work with Microsoft SQL Server Escalation Engineers at the SQL PASS 2004 Conference, these labs can be used for self-paced troubleshooting training on SQL Server 2000.

All labs are documented so that users can work through different scenarios in a self-study environment. These labs cover popular topics such as blocking, performance, memory, and debugging, and data recovery. They include hands-on usage of the PSS tools: READ80TRACE, OSTRESS, and PSSDiag.

Hello All,

This is a community feedback post regarding the .NET Junkies Bloggers - so feel free to be brutally honest.

Basically I’ve been the “Moderator” of our WebLogs as far as who gets a Blog (yes we do deny people) and who can maintain a Blog based off of what they post (yes we have kicked people). I don’t want to get into details on how I judge this – I just want to know how we stack up and how we’re doing?

We know there are some issues with the runtime we use (very small) so please don’t post about that. These bugs are being worked on and will be fixed soon! We promise!

I look forward to your feedback!

Thanks!

Donny Mack

Hello All,

Thanks for the heads up from everyone this morning. We experienced some “General Network Problems” this morning, after a network restart we were up. I haven't been able to pin-point the issue, but we're up now. We haven't done any major software updates lately so I'm really at a loss of where to start, but hopefully the event logs of one of the servers will give me a tell!

Thanks,

Donny

Hello All,

SQLJunkies Newsgroups

I just put up the beta release of our new newsgroups application. Now I need some feedback. What newsgroups do you want to see on here? I have all the SQL Server newsgroups, but would you like to see more? Such as ADO.NET, Windows CE SQL? Etc.

If you try to go to the newsgroups within 20 minutes of this post you wont see much. The archving mech. only fires every 20 minutes.

We added some nifty new features:

- Alerting: If you are a junkie and you don't like spam from newsgroups then let us take care of it. We have implemented an alerting system so now you can go to a post, any post (whether you posted it or not) and wire yourself up to get an email notification whenever the thread is active again. We deliver it from our server to you based on your registered email address.

- Forwarding: Now you can forward good posts to friends

- Rating: rating is used because all threads are downloaded and static pages are created (for performance) based on your rating after a set amount of time all badly or not rated threads are purged from the system so we only keep threads that actually give good information. Additionally, these ratings will be used in the new Search functionality that will be launched next.

We have a lot of other new features we're going to be implmenting in the next release but we wanted to start testing now so please try to break it, and post any bugs to the bugs forum found here:
